Scotland and the European Union

Rona Mackay MSP

The SNP believes that Scotland benefits from its membership of the European Union and it is in Scotland’s best interests to remain within it. We know it’s not perfect and needs reform, but we want to have a louder voice in Europe and we will be campaigning in the forthcoming referendum, to stay in the EU.

There are many benefits to remaining in the EU – it is the main destination for Scotland’s international exports and as citizens of the EU we are ale to travel freely throughout Europe – for work, study or travel – without the need for visas.

We need a greater involvement in EU policy-making and an opportunity to be part of discussions about reform as an independent nation, rather than becoming even more distant by removing ourselves.

Crucially, we may also endanger our Human Rights entitlement, which is embedded in the EU.
